Visit the website of the National Association of Heavy Equipment Training Schools, or NAHETS. Click on the "Getting Started" tab in the main menu.
Fill out the form on the right side of the page. Wait for a staff member at NAHETS to contact you. Once you're accepted, the staff member can help you arrange for financial aid if you need it.
Complete the NAHETS program. During the program, you'll be trained in all aspects of heavy machinery operation, including level 1 and level 2 equipment and mobile crane operation. Take advantage of all hands-on training offered through the program. The program takes approximately nine weeks to complete. Once you've passed the certification exam, you'll be NAHETS-certified.
Work with NAHETS' job placement assistance. You can also find employment in the field of your choice through networking or applying to jobs directly. Because you're a NAHETS graduate, you will have an advantage over your competition in the job market.
Complete all necessary on-the-job training once you find employment in your chosen field. On-the-job training is essential for learning to use heavy machinery. Your employer will provide you with a trainer who will give you detailed instructions about the proper ways to operate heavy machinery.

Your trainer will help you understand all the necessary safety measures, as well as the proper ways to operate the heavy machinery to ensure everyone is safe.
