Increase your pupils' passion for the field by demonstrating your dedication. Many of the jobs that nurse's aides complete daily can seem mundane or unimportant, but they are vital to proper patient care. Never present tasks as menial when describing them or your pupils may adopt a similarly dismissive attitude. Instead, describe why each task is important.
Your lessons will be more effective if you have a well-defined lesson goal for each session. Prior to planning, determine what you want your students to be able to do at the conclusion of the lesson, and keep this goal in mind as you plan. Ask yourself throughout the planning process whether the activities you have in mind will effectively accomplish your goal.
Students learn best not by hearing about a task, but by actually completing it. As you teach your nurse's aides the basic skills that they will need to work in the field, allow them to practice these skills on each other or by using life-size models. Once your students have tried these skills, they will be better able to complete the activity in the future.
Nurses and nurse's aides work cooperatively with each other to take care of patients. Instill the importance of effective cooperation by allowing your nurse's aide students to work together whenever possible. Engage students in group projects or allow them to conduct research in pairs so that they can work with their future colleagues.
While tests might be the easiest assessment method to administer, they are far from an accurate measure of how your nurse's aide students will actually do on the job. Use standard tests sparingly and opt instead for performance assessments such as projects or oral examinations to allow your students to show their skills in a way that's more similar to what they'll do on the job.
