Pima Medical Institute has several locations in the western U.S., including one in Chula Vista, California. Pima Medical Institute offers students a wide variety of health care training, from a dental assistant program to a pharmacy technician program. They also offer a medical assistant program that trains students to successfully work side-by-side with nurses and physicians. While part of the medical assistant program, you will learn a variety of clerical and clinical tasks, such as taking vital signs, scheduling patients and preparing examination rooms. Pima Medical Institute's medical assistant program consists of 34 credits of lab and lecture courses, as well as 200 hours of required externship following the completion of the required credit hours. The program is nine months long. Students who need financial assistance may qualify for grants and loans.

Concorde Career College is located in several locations in the U.S., including Garden Grove, California. Concorde's Garden Grove location offers a medical assistant training program that prepares students to work as an in-demand, fully functional medical assistant. Concorde's Career College trains students to preform an array of tasks, from performing CPR and scheduling patients to assisting with examinations and preparing medications. Concorde's medical assistant program is eight months long and requires students to take a 240-hour externship following the completion of all of the lectures and labs. Financial aid is available to students who qualify.

Central Coast College is located in Salinas, California. This college offers a variety of health care and business training programs, including a medical assistant program that is less than a year long. Students who enroll in Central Coast's medical assistant program will train to successfully preform a medley of clerical, clinical and lab tasks. Typical tasks include maintaining medical records, preparing patients for treatment and drawing blood. Following the completion of the program, students have a 160-hour externship in a physician's office to gain real life experience. Financial aid in the form of grants and/or loans is offered to qualified students.
