Cardiac Surveillance Tech Online Training

Cardiac monitoring technicians are also known as cardiac telemetry technicians. Their job is to monitor patients' heart rhythms and let the nurse know about important changes. Training for this career usually occurs in a classroom or in the workplace, but some online training is available, too.
  1. Online Training

    • Most online programs allow professional healthcare workers to take a single course. Courses in how to read a 12 Lead ECG or a refresher course in basic ECG strip assessment are two that are commonly available. One company, Phlebotomy Career Training, offers a complete Telemetry ECG Certification course online.

    Phlebotomy Career Training Course

    • The one-week program offered by Phlebotomy Career Training teaches students how to read and interpret a variety of normal and abnormal heart rhythms. Students also study the biometabolism of heart medications, as well as the anatomy and physiology of the heart muscle.

    Certification

    • After finishing the online course, graduates can sit for the National Healthcareer Associations ECG Technician Certification. Other groups that certify telemetry technicians include the American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals and the Cardiovascular Credentialing Institute.
