FAS Computer Training

Foras Áiseanna Saothair (FAS) is the Irish national training and employment agency that operates training and employment programs for unemployed individuals. The agency offers, among other services, free computer hardware and software training for job seekers.
  1. Prerequisites

    • Candidates for FAS computer training must be at least 16 years old and registered with their local FAS office before applying for a course. FAS computer training courses are available for everyone who meets the requirements, but applicants with previous training or work experience in the computer hardware or software sector receive preference.

    Significance

    • FAS offers courses in computer hardware repair and maintenance, programming and software training. The courses have been specifically developed to provide the computer and information technology industries with entry-level IT personnel. The aim of the courses is to provide trainees with computer skills and related knowledge and to develop trainee personal effectiveness and confidence.

    Time Frame

    • Computer hardware repair courses last one year. Successful participants receive a European Certificate in Computers Maintenance and Networking. Programming training lasts for 98 weeks and software training lasts from 10 to 20 weeks. FAS courses are free and participants receive unemployment benefits while participating.
