SUNY: Four-Year Technology Colleges

The State University of New York, also referred to as SUNY, offers a range of campuses and programs throughout the Empire State. The SUNY system has several technical campuses that offer four-year programs for such topics as environmental science, forestry tech, agriculture, engineering and technical nursing courses. SUNY campuses have two systems of tuition: those for instate residents and those for out-of-staters.
  1. SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry

    • The Environmental Science and Forestry College (ESF) is based in Syracuse and is adjacent to the private Syracuse University. The program is renowned for the forestry program and has summer study programs at the satellite campus called the Ranger School in the Adirondack hamlet of Wanakena. The Environmental Studies program offers technical and hands-on experience with outdoor recreation, hydrology, geology, botany and sustainable resources. Admittance is competitive.

    SUNY Canton A and T

    • SUNY Canton A and T - Agriculture and Technology - is located in the town that shares its name, Canton. Canton is in the "north country" of New York State and sees harsh winters. The Agriculture Tech program at SUNY Canton offers four-year programs for equestrian sciences, farming and veterinary technical sciences. The campus is within two hours of Ottawa, Ontario, and within four hours of Syracuse, New York. Students have options to do off campus studies at the various farms, equestrian centers and field research stations throughout the north country.

    SUNY Farmingdale

    • Farmingdale is north of New York City and offers four year tech programs. Programs that have fou- year degrees include Aviation, Electrical/Computer, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automotive and Architecture/Construction. These programs are through the campuses School of Engineering Technology. Farmingdale is within an hour of New York City. Students study on campus and conduct internships at the tech firms throughout the lower portion of New York State.

    SUNY Institute of Technology Utica-Rome

    • Located in Utica, New York, the campus of SUNY Institute of Technology offers programs in Radiation Technology, Nursing, Engineering, Computer Technology and Electrical and Computer Engineering. All of these programs are available as four-year programs. The SUNY Institute of Technology is considered one of the "pearls" in the SUNY system, and competition is tough for placement in many of the four year programs.
