Customs: The primary law regulating customs administration in India is the Customs Act, 1962. The law lays down the provisions and procedures for import and export of goods. The law also regulates the collection of customs duties and other taxes.
Customs Officers: As their primary duty, customs officers handle, evaluate and clear cargo, vehicles and people through customs and ensure that all duties and taxes have been paid.
Qualifications:
- Educational Qualification:
* A Bachelor’s degree in any stream/discipline from a recognised University/institute.
* Candidates pursuing their final year are also eligible to apply for the examination (They should possess the required qualification on or before 1st August of the year of examination)
* Additional weightage will be given to those candidates who hold a Masters degree in Economics or Business administration.
- Age Limit: 21-30 years (candidates holding an additional qualification that will be considered under additional educational qualifications are given relaxation of 5 years.)
- Nationality: Indian Nationality
- Physical Requirement: Normal physique and good eyesight.
- Medical Requirements: Candidates must be physically fit and must not be suffering from any disease/disability.
- Additional Qualifications:
- Proficiency in computers
- Knowledge of Foreign languages
- Membership in a recognised professional organization
- Experience working in a customs-related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
