Integrated Education and Training System

• The South African government promotes technology education in schools through integration of academic and technical/vocational learning systems.

Single Qualification Structure

• Under South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) has been set to link separate education and training fields together.

New Curriculum Framework

• Named Curriculum 2005 (C2005) after the year of its implementation, it is the first single curriculum for all South Africans. A nine-year compulsory education is one of the key facets of the new curriculum.

• Under the new C2005, new learning areas have become increasingly difficult to attract necessary attention and resources in institutions.

• NGOs who were crucial supporters in technology and teacher education have been withdrawing their support significantly.
