Universities usually publish academic journals. The better a university's reputation in a given field, the more prestigious the journal is considered to be. The "Journal for the Art of Teaching" is published by the Academy for the Art of Teaching at Florida International University. Each copy of this journal is based around a single topic.
Other examples of journals in this area include: "Pedagogy", which focuses on education in English, "Journal of Marketing Education," which obviously focuses on education in marketing, "The Art of Teaching Music," "The Art of Teaching Children in the Arts," " Journal of Teacher Education," and "Education Research and Reviews."
This very short list is the tip of the iceberg; the art of teaching is both general (because each field has different ideas on what the art of teaching is for their subject) and specific (because there are even more journals that have nothing to do with teaching).
The most important journals in the art of teaching are those which focus on teaching specifically. Those journals are the "Journal for the Art of Teaching", "Education Research and Reviews", and "Pedagogy". These journals provide peer-reviewed, high-quality articles. "Educational Research and Review" publishes articles in all areas of education including education policies and management. The articles in each of the journals listed above are written by teacher-scholars for teacher-scholars and those learning to be teachers and scholars of the art of teaching.
Education journals, like most academic journals, can be found most easily through university libraries. In addition to paper copies of many journals, most university libraries subscribe to digital databases like the Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) -- which is where you can find most education journals. Project Muse is another example of a database which contains education journals. Journals can also be purchased directly from the publisher, either individual copies or by subscription.
Scholar use journals to stay up to date on the most current information in their field. "Pedagogy" is published four times a year, while "Education Research and Review" comes out monthly and the "Journal for the Art of Teaching" each semester, which works out to about three per year. Students can use journals to learn what is important to the scholarly world about teaching, research specific topics or just learn more about the art of teaching.
