Top Part-Time MBA Programs

Publications that rank business schools tend to use different criteria and, therefore, their ranking lists often vary. However, when ranking part-time MBA programs, three schools appear near the top of both the \"U.S. News and World Report\" and \"Bloomberg BusinessWeek\" “Best of” lists: University of California, Berkeley; University of California, Los Angeles; and the University of Michigan.
  1. University of California, Berkeley

    • UC Berkeley offers a part-time, three-year MBA program geared toward working professionals. Every fall, the Haas School of Business admits four cohorts of 60 students each, with two cohorts taking classes on Monday through Thursday evenings and two taking classes on weekends. The weekend program also offers a location in the Silicon Valley to accommodate the needs of professionals who cannot take classes on the Berkeley campus. \"U.S. News and World Report\" ranks Berkeley’s part-time MBA program as the third best in the country (tied with Michigan), and \"Bloomberg\" also ranks Berkeley in its third spot.

    • UCLA’s Anderson School of Management offers a fully employed MBA program, in which professionals may take courses over 33 months or on a 27-month accelerated schedule. Students in the program average five to eight years of working experience and take courses on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays or Wednesdays and Saturdays. \"Bloomberg\" ranks the Anderson School as the second-best part-time MBA program in the nation, while \"U.S. News\" rates Anderson as tied for fifth with New York University.

    University of Michigan

    • The University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business offers part-time MBA courses in evening and weekend formats. The evening MBA program allows students to set their own pace, with some students graduating in as little as two years, while others take up to five years to finish and may take courses on the main campus in Ann Arbor and/or Southfield. While the weekend MBA offers classes mainly on the Ann Arbor campus, around 25 percent of weekend MBA students pursue the degree via distance learning. \"U.S. News\" ranks the Ross part-time MBA as the third best program in the country (tied with Berkeley), while \"Bloomberg\" rates the program as fifth.
