The University of Pittsburgh offers an undergraduate degree in public and nonprofit management. Students begin the major by taking introductory courses on the role nonprofit institutions play in society. The nonprofit management degree also requires courses in philosophy, political science, law, organization design and economics. Instructors will teach students accounting skills needed to run an institution, as well as fund-raising tactics for bringing in new revenues. The university offers a number of elective courses to fulfill the major requirements including health reform in the United States, housing policy and emergency management.
The University of Minnesota offers a degree in nonprofit management that prepares students for careers in government institutions, social welfare nonprofits and environmental nonprofits, among many other options. The degree requires students to complete 21 credit hours from its core curriculum and pick another business major to go along with their main focus. All students must take courses such as nonprofit financial analysis and ethics in nonprofit management.
Seton Hall University only offers nonprofit management as a graduate degree. The university requires students to complete 15 total credit hours to receive a diploma. The management program gives students the tools they will need to as a non-profit manager, including fund-raising methods, volunteer management and the ability to lobby government bodies. All students in the program must complete course covering the foundations of the nonprofit sector, public policy process and leadership of nonprofit organizations. Graduates of the non-profit MBA program go on to careers as fund-raising coordinators, volunteer coordinators and grant writers for government institutions and private nonprofits.
Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania, offers a weekend master's degree in nonprofit management. Students meet with instructors on both Saturdays and Sundays for two years to complete the program. Eastern provides this degree program at Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., campuses along with its main campus. The program requires that each graduate complete an independent research project related to the nonprofit industry. This research project makes up a part of the student's thesis. Teachers devote much of their focus to volunteer recruitment tactics and team management skills.
