Part of Rutgers University School of Environmental and Biological Sciences allows students to major animal sciences with a particular focus in Equine Science. Students study horse anatomy, behavior, healthcare, nutrition and physiology, research and have opportunities for hands-on experience in horse handling and day-to-day care. Through the university's Memorandum of Understanding with Delaware Valley College, interested students also take classes on equine breeding, horse show management, stable management, and horse training and conditioning.
The Department of Animal Science at Michigan State University provides a variety of educational options in equine studies: a two-year horse management certificate program that covers equine skills and horse management; a bachelors of science degree in areas such as animal biology and pre-veterinary medicine with a specialization in horses through research and directed studies; graduate studies in equine science; and research to improve the performance and longevity of horses through improved training, management and nutrition.
William Woods University offers a four-year equestrian science degree, which covers both theory and hands-on practical experience. Theoretical coursework covers equine anatomy, nutrition, horse evaluation and stable management; students also provide all the actual care and management of the University's horses. Students can also earn bachelors of equine administration that prepares them in areas such as horse marketing, breeding and event management.
The Equine Science Program at North Central Texas College prepares students for many facets of the equine industry--such as training, teaching breeding and showing. The college provides associates degrees and certificates in equine science; for example: The associate of applied science degree covers coursework in equine behavior, equine science and business management. The horse training and management certificate has coursework in enterprise management, horse evaluation, reproduction and training.
The Equine Science Program--an option for animal science majors--is a four year bachelor's of science degree that offers opportunities for study in applied and technical areas of equine science. To enhance their course offerings, the University collaborates with William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute in Chazy, New York and specialized classes at UVM Morgan Horse Farm in Weybridge, Vermont.

Those who graduate from this program can work as horse breeders, race facility managers, consultants and equine science instructors.
