Find a quiet place in your home. Find an area, such as a room or enclosed patio, at your home to go and study. Make sure you will be able to study without any distractions and be able to get some quiet while doing so. If necessary, tell everyone in your home that you will be studying and want to be left alone. If you have kids, ask someone to come over and watch them while you study. Post a schedule of your study times somewhere in your home where everyone can see when you are unavailable.
Have everything you need with you. Believe it or not, study distractions can be caused by you not being prepared and having to continually get up to go get something. Make sure you have all of your books, notes and materials needed to complete the study session. Keep all items in a bag so when you go to a room or leave the house, everything is already in the bag ready to go.
Leave the house. Take your study materials out of the house if it is not possible to find somewhere quiet in your home or you know you will continually be interrupted. Local libraries offer quiet places to study with Internet access you can use to continue researching. Some local restaurants or coffee houses offer comfortable places to sit and Internet access for you to use. A quiet park can offer a place to study without any distractions and with lots of fresh air.
Turn off all electronics. Before you begin to study, turn off all electronics including your cell phone, television and instant messenger. If you do not need your computer for research, turn it off too. If you are using your computer, remember to not check email or stop by your favorite social networking site and to keep computer use strictly to study-related purposes.
