Create or find a clear and clean workplace to study. Make sure that you have plenty of room on your desk or table so that you can spread out with notes and texts. This also ensures that you can move about and make notes without worrying about clutter getting in your way.
Make sure that your study area is well lit. If you are straining to see your work then you will experience premature fatigue from studying and your labor will be in vain.
Create a quiet work environment. This can either mean going to a study breakout room at your school or placing yourself in a quiet room in your apartment or at a coffee house. If there is background noise you can use a portable music player to block out that noise. Playing soothing or classical music is known to help people concentrate on studying and retain information.
Create a task list of what you need to study. This will let you know what you need to work on without worrying about remembering it, freeing up your mind on the task at hand.
Break down your study schedule into blocks so you do not feel overwhelmed. It is impossible to get the most out of your studying if you are overwhelmed and focusing on that stress. Breaking up your study needs into bits makes the task easier and frees your mind to focus on each individual piece.
Take a five- or ten-minute break for every half hour to hour of studying. Doing so decreases fatigue and lets you refocus your energy without becoming overwhelmed. It also lets you absorb what you have just studied and keeps you from doing superficial reading where you are reading but not grasping the knowledge at hand.
