How to Cite Inside a PowerPoint

Citing inside a PowerPoint presentation is simple and does not differ greatly from citing sources in written forms, such as articles or essays. Because you still need the title, date of publication, page number, URLs, and author(s) of your sources, be sure to keep an accurate record of this information during the research process. Adhering to standard citation format s basically the same. The basic difference between computer presentation and essay citation is where you put your cited information.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate and identify information that you found in outside sources. Find the required citation information of those sources.

    • 2

In the slide where your cited information appears, create a footnote by selecting "insert text box" form the "insert" menu at the top of the screen. Adjust font size to be smaller than font used in the body of the presentation.

    • 3

Format footnote citation in MLA style, unless you are specifically working in a field that uses APA or Chicago citation style (for example, APA is more common in scientific fields). MLA is the most widely used format for citation, and is usually standard in most humanities disciplines. Basic MLA format looks like this:

Author(s). "Title of Article/Chapter." Title of Magazine/Book/Website. [City of Publication: Publisher's name, year of publication. Print.] OR [Date of last update. Web. Date accessed.]

At the end of your presentation, add a slide entitled "Works Cited," which serves as a compilation of all sources that you have cited throughout your presentation.
