The quarter units earned for the completion of one class is higher than those offered for the completion of the same class on a semester calendar. Colleges and universities on the quarter system divide their calendar into three sessions. Each session, students must take two to three classes to earn full-time status. On a semester calendar, students must take four classes to earn full-time status. When transferring from a school on a quarter system to a semester calendar, the quarter units earned from transferable classes are converted to semester units to get the total units earned.
