    • 1

Know the test's standard sections. There are four sections, totaling 215 questions: 75 English questions, 60 math questions, 40 reading questions and 40 science questions.

    • 2

Understand your time constraints. You get 45 minutes for the English section, 60 minutes for math, 35 minutes for reading and 35 minutes for science. You are given breaks between sections.

    • 3

Make sure you have a calculator to bring with you to the test-one that you understand how to operate. A graphing calculator is most helpful, but a calculator with trig functions is sufficient.

    • 4

Take practice ACT tests so you are familiar with the instructions, format and style of the test. Spend extra time preparing for the areas that the practice tests reveal you are weak in.

    • 5

Time yourself taking the practice tests. Time is a very important factor in this test.
