To get into Rowan University as an undergrad student from a traditional school setting, you need at least four English classes, two laboratory sciences, algebra I, algebra II and geometry, two social studies courses and five additional courses. Spread the additional courses between at least two of the following subjects: history, languages, math, science and English. For your language courses to count, take at least two in the same language, such as Spanish I and II. Students pursuing a degree in engineering must complete an additional course in laboratory science and mathematics. Precalculus is required. The majority of students accepted have from 400 to 600 in each section of the SAT, including critical reading, math and writing scores.
You are considered a transfer student at Rowan if you completed 12 or more credits at another school. You are also a transfer student if you possess a bachelor's degree and are pursuing another one, regardless of the issuing institution. Transfer students need at least a 2.5 GPA. Transfer openings are very few, and competition for them is fierce. Rowan recommends a higher GPA and that you remain in a community college until you complete your associate's degree. Forms and materials include a completed application, transcripts for all colleges and a resume. For those with less than 24 credits earned, include high school transcripts and SAT scores.
Home-schooled students must provide proof that they meet the requirements for admission by providing either a portfolio of work or transcript completed by the home-school program or school. The portfolio must contain a syllabus, textbook list and grades. Include tests, writing samples, worksheets and other proof in the portfolio. Students living outside of New Jersey must meet the requirements of their home state and provide proof of such in addition to the transcript or portfolio. Those submitting a portfolio must have their teacher complete the form called Rowan's Curriculum Chart for Home-Schooled Students.
Graduate schools require a completed graduate application form with a current resume, college transcripts and a bachelor's degree. Each individual program has additional requirements. For example, the M.A. of Writing requires an eight- to 10-page writing sample, two letters of recommendation and a statement of professional objectives. For other fields of study, you undergo other methods of evaluation, such as an interview, the Praxis and meeting course or work experience requirements.
When submitting transcripts from a college not in the U.S., provide a translated copy from a Rowan University recommended service. This requirement is necessary if you spent a semester or more at a foreign college. If you have not received a bachelor's degree and English is not your native tongue, take one of the following tests: Test of English as a Foreign Language or International English Language Testing System. Submit the scores to the university admission's office.
