The math test includes some basic math, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. For example, the test might have a question like this:
2 - (-3 + 9)
This tests elementary math skills and order sequencing. The answers are multiple choice, with four options.
Algebra problems are part of the GED exam. The test includes both basic and advanced algebra. It is not necessary to know the formulas beforehand because they are provided on the test, but you must be able to translate and solve the problems.
The GED tests your knowledge of fractions and problems relating to fractions, as well as squares and square roots. For example, testers should know how to add, subtract, multiply or divide fractions, and should know how to find square roots of a number. The use of a calculator is allowed for the sections involving square roots.
Geometry questions are also part of the GED. Geometry includes shapes, measurements, angles and lines, as used in math.
Word problems are included in the GED math test. Written problems are included for algebra, geometry and basic math. The necessary skills to solve the questions include breaking down the problem, determining the appropriate formula, using the formula and finding the final answer.
