How to Troubleshoot a Varian NMR

Varian NMR is a spectrometer system used by universities to analyze and measure electromagnetic radiation. It's an extremely complex suite hounded by thousands of glitches. If you encounter an issue you cannot troubleshoot on your own, contact your university staff immediately.

      Type "abortallacqs" in the command line if the console ignores your commands. It will cause the instrument to become inactive and then return to idle. Type "fixshims" when it goes idle, and then turn spinning back on and reestablish a lock.

      Unlock the workspace if, while trying to access a workspace, you encounter this error message: "Foreground processing is active." Perform this by typing "unlock(#,'force')", where "#" refers to the number of the locked experiment.

      Re-specify the plotter name on the command line if you encounter any difficulties printing. Perform this by typing the command "plotter= ('plotter name')", where plotter name refers to the plotter.

      Ensure the spinner is running if your sample doesn't spin. Perform this by clicking the "Start" tab in the "Parameter" panel, selecting "Spin/Temp," moving the "Spinner" slider to 25 and clicking "Regulate Speed."

      Open the "Command" console and type "acqi" if the "acqi" button doesn't show on the top menu line. This will cause the "acqi" window to launch, after which you need to just close it for the button to appear.
