Grants for School Social Workers

Social workers actively promote social change and work to help those in need and at risk. Social work is a broad field that draws theory from several other academic disciplines, and addresses a variety of social problems, such as poverty, addiction, and crime. In the United States, several federal and local organization provide assistance to prospective social work students.
  1. National Association of Social Workers

    • Located in Washington D.C., the National Association of Social Workers provides several grants for students working in different social work fields. Among their grants is the Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial MSW Scholarship for Master's students. This grant is for students who want to work for a non-profit organization. The amount typically varies between $1,000 and $4,000.     Hartford Doctoral Fellows

    • Doctoral students in the field of gerontology can apply for grants from the John A. Hartford Foundation. The foundation seeks to award exceptional students with money to conduct research in the area of elderly care. Grants are for $25 000 a year over a two year period. The application deadline is February 2, and your dissertation proposal must be accepted before you can apply.

    National Association of Black Social Workers

    • Several student grants are available specifically for a minority group. The National Association of Black Social Workers provides four such grants. Grants are awarded to African American students who have demonstrated community service and want to do research into the black community. Both book scholarships for $250, and tuition scholarships for between $1,000 and $2,000 are available. Students must submit an application with a letter of recommendation by the fourth Monday of December.
