FAFSA Process

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is required for federal and state financial aid programs. If you are a dependent, both you and your parents must fill out and sign the FAFSA.
  1. FAFSA on the Web Worksheet

    • The FAFSA website has a FAFSA worksheet to help you organize the information you need for the FAFSA. You need tax returns, social security numbers, bank statements and investment information to fill out the worksheet.

    Determine How You Will Sign

    • If you fill out the FAFSA online, you must either request a PIN through the FAFSA website to sign the document electronically or you can print, sign and mail a signature page.

    Fill out the FAFSA

    • Fill out the FAFSA using the information from your worksheet. The FAFSA website provides online hints for each field and live help, or you can fill out a paper copy of the FAFSA. Sign and submit (or mail) your FAFSA.

    Evaluation

    • Your FAFSA is evaluated and you will receive a Student Aid Report, usually within three weeks. Colleges of interest also have access to this report to create your financial aid offer.

    Amend Your FAFSA

    • If you estimated any of the original FAFSA information, amend your FAFSA once the real information is available.
