Find nursing scholarships to apply for. There are dozens of associations that provide free scholarships for nursing students. For instance, try the American Health Care Association Long Term Care Nursing Scholarship or the National Black Nurses Association Scholarship Program (See References).
See if you qualify. Each scholarship has rules for qualification. Read the fine print. For instance, some scholarships require that you be enrolled in an RN (Registered Nurse) program while others accept LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) programs as well. Some scholarships, like the NBNA scholarship listed above, require you to be of a certain minority or gender.
Follow scholarship directions carefully. There are certain forms you need to fill out. You'll also need to provide proof that you are enrolled in nursing school. Directions vary based on the scholarship.
Send in the scholarship application promptly. There is usually a small window of time in which you can apply, so make sure you haven't missed the deadline for the current year's scholarship.
Wait to hear results. It may take several months to hear back about the scholarship. Most scholarships will only contact you if you've won.
