Assembly Learning Grant

• This grant allows students living in Wales to claim financial support if they are part of a low-income family, or if they are in a position where going on to further education could place them in financial difficulties.

  Unlike a student loan, this grant will never have to be paid back, and if you are claiming benefits, the grant does not count toward your total income, which could distort the amount of benefits you receive.

  Eligible students attending a full-time course can claim £975. This will be paid in three installments--one at the beginning of each term.

Welsh National Bursary

• The Welsh National Bursary is implemented by the individual colleges or universities. It is designed for those students who are considered to need extra financial help in addition to a student loan or the Assembly Learning Grant.

  All bursary applications are means-tested, meaning the amount you receive is wholly dependent on your income, family situation and family income.

Special Support Grant

• For students in need of real financial support, the Assembly can implement the Special Support Grant. This can amount to more than £2,800 and is completely non-repayable. Acceptance will be means-tested and dependent on your personal financial situation and household income.

  Application for the Special Support Grant means you are not allowed to receive the Assembly Learning Grant.
