Solar Engineering Colleges

Solar engineering pertains to the process of converting sunlight into electrical energy. A solar engineer designs, modifies and maintains the solar panels and associated machinery used in the manufacturing of solar energy. Solar Engineers are employed in private industry, colleges and government agencies.

    • The Solar Energy Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering was founded in 1954 and was the world’s first solar energy research laboratory. The Solar Energy Lab offers advanced degrees to students who have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or chemical engineering.

    • The University of Massachusetts – Lowell Solar Energy Engineering program is dedicated to the development of methods for renewable solar energy. The program offers a master’s degree or a doctor of engineering degree. Applicants to the program must possess a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
