Mira Costa Community College in Oceanside offers Child Development programs including Assistant Teacher, Associate Teacher, Early Intervention and Inclusion, Entrepreneurship, Master Teacher, Site Supervisor and Teacher. Students can earn an associate degree or complete a Certificate of Proficiency or Certificate of Achievement. Both day time and night time courses are available in the fall and spring, and special summer courses are also available.

Palomar College offers an extensive Child Development program that offers several possibilities for those looking for either certificates, degrees or simply workshops on child development. Thirty different one to four unit courses are available in addition to a variety of workshops. Each semester between 40 and 45 sections are available. Courses are available during the daytime and evening, and internet courses are also offered. The San Marcos campus is approximately 15 minutes from Oceanside, but classes are also offered in satellite campuses in Escondido and Mt. Carmel.

For students who care to pursue a career in child care in the form of teaching, California State University's College of Education offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. Most classes take place on the university's campus in San Marcos, but some courses are also offered online. A Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership is also offered to graduate students who wish to take their career in childcare to the highest academic level.
