The Medical University of South Carolina offers a number of pediatric nursing courses as part of its pediatric nurse practitioner program. In "advanced care management, child," nursing students learn how to assess, diagnose and manage children and infants "with common episodic and chronic conditions." They study symptoms, treatments and ways to educate children to stay healthy. The course "advanced clinical assessment and reasoning, child" instructs students how to assess children for normal and abnormal physical and psychosocial behaviors. In addition, students learn how to conduct developmental screen and well-child visits for young patients. They develop these skills in a simulation lab.
