Physical Anthropology Resources

Physical anthropology, the study of human evolutionary biology, physical variation and classification, can be a complicated area of study. Online resources are useful to back up scientific texts and make the study of anthropology more accessible. Most important among these resources are up to date journal research articles, but for background, online tutorials are invaluable.

    • Palomar College in California has free access online tutorials on the basics of physical anthropology written by the Department of Behavioral Sciences.

    Journal Of Human Evolution

    • Published by Elsevier, the Journal of Human Evolution concentrates both on paleoanthropology and on comparative studies of existing species. Subscriptions are necessary to view all articles but some can be found free on Sciencedirect, linked from the Journal of Human Evolution's website.

    American Journal Of Physical Anthropology

    • The American Association of Physical Anthropologists' official journal is a subscription service with up to date research.

    The Leakey Foundation

    • Building on the work of Louis Leakey in Africa, the Leakey Foundation is a useful resource for grants and anthropology talks explaining the origin of the Leakey family's contribution to physical anthropology.

    eSkeletons

    • An endeavour of the University of Texas, eSkeletons is an online interactive site dedicated to comparative skeletal primate anatomy with taxonomy information, useful for students of anthropology.
