Courses in Refrigeration

Refrigeration is used to remove heat from an enclosed space or area. Courses in refrigeration teach the basic principles of refrigeration using mathematics, theory and hands-on practice. Various programs offer classes that teach the understanding of refrigeration. These classes are usually associated with a certificate or degree program in heating and cooling. Course requirements, credits given, class titles and lecture hours vary from school to school and from state to state.
  1. Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Controls I-II

    • This course teaches the electron theory, magnetism, Ohm's Law, current flow, A.C. motors, resistance, instruments for electrical measurement, power distribution and the application of each.

    Heat Pumps

    • Heat pumps studies the theory and operation of reverse-cycle refrigeration. This includes supplementary heat as applied to heat pump systems including installation, maintenance and service.

    Heating, Air and Refrigeration Calculations

    • Heating, Air and Refrigeration Calculations includes fractions, equations, signs of operations, decimals, subtraction, Ohm's theory, division and multiplication of signed numbers. It also teaches fundamentals of algebra, solutions of equations and expression of stated problems in mathematical form.

    Refrigeration Principles

    • Refrigeration Principles is an introduction to the refrigeration cycle. The program also teaches basic thermodynamics, temperatre/pressure relationship, refrigeration containment, and heat transfer.

    Air Conditioning Troubleshooting

    • Air conditioning troubleshooting teaches advanced application of troubleshooting principles using text instruments to diagnose air conditioning and refrigeration components and system problems including conducting performance testing.
