Visit the closest One-Stop Career Center in your county or place of residence. The centers are responsible for providing all services related to the WIA. Inquire about whether or not the center offers grants for Licensed Practical Nurses to train as Registered Nurses. It is up to your state or local government to offer priority to such programs. If so, you likely will have to put your name on a wait list.
Fill out all required applications provided by the center. Most centers will require you to fill out a job application and attach your resume to the application.
Meet with your assigned caseworker when your name comes up on the wait list. Your caseworker will help you evaluate your career as an LPN to date and will consider your household finances and all those for whom you are responsible. In order to qualify for such a grant, you will need to demonstrate that becoming an RN will lead to more self-sufficiency. If you are receiving any type of public assistance while still employed as an LPN, you will have priority over others who are not.
Fill out all required paperwork to apply for the WIA grant, provided by your caseworker. You will need to provide all documentation required, such as your identification, your household budget, and any documentation regarding social assistance.
Chose which RN school you want to attend, upon approval of your grant. The One-Stop Career Center will provide you with a list of approved schools; you will need to select one from the list provided.
