How to Set Up a Descriptive Quantitative Research Paper

Research papers are a fact of life for high school, college and graduate school students. Although your teacher or professor will tell you the exact format to follow when writing your paper, there is a generally accepted and expected format, particularly when it comes to publishing a paper at the graduate level. A descriptive research paper gives information on how the project was done, while a quantitative paper gives data and statistics to back up the stated conclusions.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the introduction of the paper. Include a description of the problem or the topic of research, the focus of your paper and a summary of your position or argument.

    • 2

Describe the methods you used in your research or experiment. Include any information or equipment you used and any specific methodologies implemented.

    • 3

Present your quantitative results -- data -- in terms that can be easily understood by the reader. Use a systematic, logical presentation and include charts, tables or graphs to help explain your results.

    • 4

Discuss what you learned from your research. Interpret the results for your reader and explain what they mean and what the impact of what you have learned may be.

    • 5

Make your conclusions and state your recommendations. Summarize why what you learned is important and what additional research you recommend for the future.

    • 6

Include a list of references you used for writing your paper.
