This is a starter course for students planning to obtain full locksmith qualifications and eventually earn a locksmithing security license. The course gives prospective locksmiths a basic knowledge of different types of locks as well as some industry tips. Students receive about 100 hours' worth of study, and schooling lasts a maximum of 12 months. As of 2010, tuition is $1,260 in Australian currency.

This trade school offers two locksmithing courses. The first is Engineering (Locksmithing), a Certificate II course with no prerequisites. It provides basic knowledge of lock assembly and training to prepare students for apprenticeships or for advancing to the Certificate III locksmithing course. The Certificate III course is more advanced, dealing with both technical skills and other subjects, including workplace communications and occupational safety. SIT offers on-site training as well as online and distance studies. As of 2010, tuition ranges from $424 to $1,274 Australian based on diploma level.

Though not located in New South Wales, this technical and further education school offers courses in locksmithing either through distance learning or at one of its 13 campuses in the neighboring state of Victoria.
