How to Use an MBA Designation

The MBA designation marks an achievement that you should be proud of, but be careful about throwing it around unnecessarily. Remember, while a Master of Business Administration is an important professional degree, it is not a license or certification. It is also not as highly esteemed as the Ph.D. and M.D. designations. If you plan to use your designation along with your name, limit its use to professional documents such as resumes.

Instructions

    • 1

List your designation in the "Education" section of your resume. Spell out the designation as "Master of Business Administration," or use the abbreviated version as "MBA."

    • 2

List your name and designation separated by a comma on your business cards. For example, you may list "John Doe, MBA." While this usage is acceptable, it is not necessary, so it may be frowned upon by some.

    • 3

Find a way to casually mention your designation while in the midst of salary negotiations. For example, you might compare a business accomplishment to the process of getting your MBA.
