Figure out which type of business degree makes the most sense for your current education level. For example, if you already have a bachelor's degree, you can pursue a master's degree in business. If you do not, you can choose between an associate degree or a bachelor's degree. An associate degree takes about half as long, but more opportunities will be available to you with a bachelor's degree, including the option of continuing to graduate school.
Make a list of the possible career fields in business you might be interested in. These include accounting, finance, marketing, business administration, sales and technical communications. Use your past interests and academic pursuits to help you make the list.
Talk with business professionals who are in the fields you are considering. Ask them about their job experiences and responsibilities, what they like or dislike about their jobs and what educational/career path they took to get there. This talk will be in the form of an informational interview; most professionals are happy to help as long as you approach them politely and professionally.
Look into the various career options you will have with the business degrees you are considering. The informational interviews you conduct can be helpful. Also, talk with a career adviser at the universities you might attend and research some job advertisements for positions you think you might be interested after graduation. When looking at job ads, pay particular attention to the educational requirements for the position.
