Review the literature. Prior to progressing with the research, it is the responsibility of the researcher to determine what is known and what is not known about the problem. Reviewing the related literature provides a foundation to build new knowledge. It allows you to assess what has been done, what instruments were used, how it was analyzed and what new concepts you could add or further investigate. Identify the variables. Identifying the variables and formulating the hypothesis is the focal point in a proposal. It indicates what you intend to know, discover and learn. The hypothesis states the potential relationship between variables, the independent and dependent variable. Analyze the results. In a nursing research proposal, stating how you would collect, organize, code and analyze the data to answer the research question or test the hypothesis is a key point. Statistical treatments to be performed should also be written in order to measure and present numerical data stating the association between the variables. In the regression analysis, the data represents a quantified explanation. It gives a more objective approach in predicting the correlation among the factors in the problem.
Verify your proposal. Double check the proposal you have drafted. Ensure that all pertinent data and literature is present and associated with your research. Keep in mind when using multiple regression analysis, your study should use a quantitative approach and have more than one independent variable, and results should always be presented in correlation form, rather than causative.
