Write each of the element's names and symbols on each of the flash cards. Read through the flash cards to allow you brain to memorize what the elements are and the symbols that represent them.
Assign a rhyme or another word to the element that will allow you to easily recall the element. For example, if you are looking to remember "Iron," as the chemical symbol is "Fe," you could associate the word "Feeble." This will help your memory as someone would be feeble without iron.
Break the periodic table into sections and remember one section at a time. Remembering a small amount of elements is much easier than trying to remember them all at once. Once you have completely learnt one section, you can look to move on to the other sections.
Copy out the periodic table numerous times. Copying out the table allows you to use your visual memory, helping you recall the names, chemical symbols and locations of the elements on the table. Repeating this numerous times imprints it into your brain, making it much easier to recall.
Create different sentences to remember the different rows of elements with each word containing one of the chemical symbols. For example, to remember "Hydrogen," "Helium," "Lithium," "Beryllium," "Carbon," "Nitrogen," "Oxygen" and "Flouride," remember the sentence "Happy Heather Likes Baking But Can Not Open Foil." Repeat this sentence numerous times until you memorize it. The beginning letter or two letters of each word contains a chemical symbol. This will allow you to easily recall a row by just remembering the sentence.
