The Art Institutes provide creative arts and design courses which lead to Diploma, Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's qualifications. The Art Institutes are situated in over 40 locations across North America, including a campus on Market Street in San Francisco. Courses at the San Francisco campus cover a range of creative subjects including Web design and interactive media, graphic design and computer animation.
Founded in 1929, the Academy of Art University is North America's biggest accredited, private art and design university. Courses cover Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's qualifications, as well as certificate programs and a continuing education in art. Pre-college scholarship courses are also available which offer high school students an opportunity to gain an early experience of higher education. Students can study any of 16 subjects, including Web design and new media, game design and multimedia communications. All courses can be completed at the campus on New Montgomery Street or online.
California College of the Arts (CCA) offers an interdisciplinary curriculum which combines traditional and contemporary innovation. The curriculum covers art, design, and architecture, and classes are structured around theory and practical aspects of each subject. Undergraduate and graduate qualifications can be completed, as well other educational initiatives and special programs. Amongst the subjects available are interaction design, animation and graphic design, all of which cover digital channels and Web technology. CCA campuses are found in San Francisco and Oakland.
San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) was founded in 1871 and is one of the oldest and most renowned art colleges in North America. Bachelor's, Master's, post-baccalaureate and pre-college programs are offered, all which cover a range of subjects. A School of Interdisciplinary Studies has educational departments which cover media culture, art and science. A School of Studio Practice has departments which cover design, technology and new genres in art and design. SFAI has two locations in San Francisco. A Graduate Center is located on Third Street and the main campus is on Russian Hill.
