Obtain a bachelor's degree in any branch of psychology. More education is required to become a psychometrician, but you must have post-high school education in the field of psychology from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Obtain at least a master's degree. Psychometrists must hold a minimum of a master's degree and most even have a doctorate degree. It's common for most psychometricians to have a master's degree in psychology.
Participate in a graduate internship. Study psychometrics with a licensed professional while you are continuing your education. This provides you with valuable knowledge and experience in the field of psychometry.
Obtain certification from the Board of Certified Psychometrists (BCP). This national certification may assist you in obtaining a job in some states. BCP credentials are considered to be the gold standard in the field of psychometry and will increase your value and credibility as a psychometrist. To take the exam to become board certified, you must have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of 3,000 hours of testing experience, or a master's or doctorate degree from a regionally accredited college or university and at least 2,000 hours of testing experience. The exam is given once each year. The date and location can be obtained from the Board of Certified Psychometrists.
