IFSAC is a nonprofit organization that oversees training programs related to fire safety. It offers no training programs of its own nor does it certify individual fire departments for compliance. The IFSAC offers accreditation for different levels of education, from basic firefighting to college degree-related coursework.
Pennsylvania will accept any comparable level of certification achieved by a firefighter, whether that certification is achieved online or in a traditional school setting. Care must be taken to ensure any online program is recognized by a member state, otherwise the certification offered by that program will not be accepted in Pennsylvania.
There are online schools that offer firefighter training programs, but it is important to note whether that school is approved by an IFSAC-compliant state or territory. For example, if a program is approved by Texas, which is an IFSAC member, the certificate awarded can then be transferred to any other IFSAC member state (including Pennsylvania), since the program is an accredited one recognized by all IFSAC members.
