RN CRC Online Training

Investigative research environments differ from those of non-research facilities where registered nurses (RNs) are usually found. Clinical research coordinators (CRCs) participate in administering and monitoring clinical research trials. Nurses with CRC training draw from two areas of expertise.
  1. RNs as CRCs

    • Susan G. Williams, MSN, RN, in "The Nurse as a Clinical Research Coordinator," stated that working as a CRC "gave me a much better view of research as it is put into practice, not simply read from a textbook."

    Clinical and Translational Science Institute

    • The University of Florida offers The Research Coordinator Certificate Program at its Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Students take two out of four components online. They take the first course, Clinical/Transactional Research, on site. The third portion--also on site--consists of practical application. The second and fourth portions--Research Methods in Experimental Design and Human Subjects Protections--exist online.

    Aureus Research Consultants, LLC

    • Aureus Research Consultants, LLC offers the online course, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) for the Clinical Research Professional. Nomenclature, a strong introduction to basic clinical research and practical advice constitute this course.

    NUCATS

    • Northwestern University's Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (NUCATS) offers CRC Basic Training Online. Weekly meetings occur with instructors and classmates. Basic clinical research, including how to be a clinical research coordinator, are covered.
