Tennessee Online Degrees

Tennessee offers many online degrees through several different programs. State programs are available through individual universities such as the University of Tennessee and East Tennessee State. However, the Tennessee Board of Regents Online Degree Program (RODP) offers a majority of online degrees in the state. RODP offers online degrees in Tennessee through six university campuses as well as community colleges and other technical schools. Those seeking an online degree should have the necessary technology to successfully participate in a program.

There are also graduate online programs in rehabilitation counseling, engineering and social work.

    East Tennessee State University

    • East Tennessee State University (ETSU) offers bachelor degree programs through its online degrees. These degrees include allied health, dental hygiene and radiography. Although the classes are online, a one-day orientation session on campus is required for the health programs. Students can earn career certificates in computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and sleep studies. ETSU also offers a master's in allied health online. Programs offered through ETSU, such as professional studies and interdisciplinary studies, combine with the Tennessee Regents online degree program.

Bachelor's programs include general or interdisciplinary studies, as well as initial teacher licensure programs or additional endorsements. The RODP offers associate programs in early childhood, nursing and health information, among others. Students can also earn a bachelor's in information technology through the Regent's program. Master's programs include nursing, education and professional studies, which entails coursework in human resources, training and management.

    Online Learning

    • Online learning

Before committing to an online degree, make sure that the technology and self-motivation is available. According to ESTU, students should have a minimum of a 56K modem and a 5.0 browser. Students must also be aware that occasional technological disruptions may occur and to be able to handle such disruptions. Many programs also require online software be installed, such as Java or Silverlight, so that students can access the online classroom. It is also important to know whether classes have set meeting times and require active participation during those times.
