Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing is Michigan's second most prominent university. In a national ranking list issued by "U.S. News & World Report" (2010), MSU ranked second only to the University of Michigan (UM) in Ann Arbor among Michigan universities. Of the two, MSU offers many more online degree programs. There are degrees to earn entirely online and several "hybrid" classes that are a blend of 50 percent online instruction and 50 percent instruction in the classroom. Central Michigan University (CMU) in Mount Pleasant is a fourth-tier national university, according to "U.S. News & World Report." CMU offers various online degree options. Bachelor's degrees include fields such as building code and organization administration, psychology, community services, health sciences and public administration. The University of Michigan at Dearborn (UMD) is a university in a separate class from CMU and MSU. Classified by "U.S. News & World Report" as a "master's university," UMD offers a wide range of undergraduate programs, some master's level programs and few doctoral programs. Nonetheless, as a master's university, UMD ranked No. 27 among master's universities in the Midwest region of the United States in 2010.
