Do make sure that you have completed the following college-level science courses before applying at a pre-med school: biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics. Get good grades in these subjects.
Narrow your choice of pre-med school down to ones that have a strong interest in science studies. It also helps to know exactly what field of medicine you are interested in studying.
Look for a school that allows you to participate in medically-oriented activities, such as volunteering at a hospital or shadowing a doctor who is making his ER rounds. You want a school that supports its students education wholly.
Be sure to investigate the acceptance rates of pre-med schools that you wish to apply at. Some will only take on students from particular colleges or universities. Don't waste your time if you know that a school will not accept you based on what college you attended.
Learn the teacher-to-student ratio at the schools you are interested in applying to. Make sure that class sizes are not so big that the professors cannot teach materials adequately.
Talk to other pre-med students or doctors that you may have contact with. Ask them about their experiences at the medical college they chose.
Be on the look out for a pre-med program that has a reputation for graduating top quality doctors. Check out alumni lists and records to assess this further.
