There are a variety of general education requirements that must be completed prior to most medical laboratory technician programs. Some of the classes that may be included are English composition, mathematics, public speaking, interpersonal communications, psychology and sociology. All schools are different, but the basic general education requirements are quite similar.
To obtain a degree as a medical laboratory technician, several science courses must be completed. The classes serve to provide the skills and knowledge needed to identify the many parts of the body and the bacteria that can invade the human organism. Some of the core science classes include anatomy and physiology, microbiology, biology and chemistry.
In addition to the basic education and science classes that have to be completed to become a laboratory technician, there are also courses and clinical classes that have to be completed that pertain to the course major. Hematology, immunology, phlebotomy, urinalysis and clinical practicum are all requirements that have to be finished in order to obtain a degree.
