What kind of degree do you need to be a petrologist?
To be a petrologist, you'll need at least a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in geology, geochemistry, or a closely related field. However, most research and advanced positions require a Master of Science (MSc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. The PhD is especially important for independent research positions in academia or government research agencies. A Master's degree might suffice for some industry roles, but the field is becoming increasingly competitive.
