California ABA Approved Law Schools

The American Bar Association (ABA) is a national association that lawyers belong to as members and which advocates for the legal profession. There are a number of services the ABA provides to its members and the community, including licensing information, assistance with finding a lawyer and regulation and accreditation of law schools that prospective lawyers may wish to attend. Their website is comprehensive and lists a large number of accredited schools where students can receive a law degree. Several schools in California are on the list, and are notable for their prestige.
  1. University of California Berkeley

    • One of the ABA-approved schools in California is UC Berkeley's School of Law in Berkeley, near San Francisco. Berkeley has been on the accredited list since 1923, and has a long-standing history of excellence in the legal education field. Berkeley is a noted school in the civil rights law field, having graduated many famous lawyers who have worked to ensure the rights of others. In addition, thanks to its proximity to the high-tech industry in California, many Berkeley graduates become intellectual property lawyers, which is a newer field of law that is still fairly open for interpretation.

For more than half a century, UCLA has been creating a standard of excellence of which the ABA has taken note. Those attending UCLA's law school can be sure that they are receiving a top-notch legal education that will prepare them well for the bar exam and for their career in law subsequent to that.

Located in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco, UC Hastings is a stand-alone law school and is part of the University of California system so tuition is reduced for California residents.
