Provisionally Approved Law Schools

If you're considering studying for a law degree, you may be concerned to find out some of the schools you're applying to have only been granted provisional approval from the American Bar Association (ABA). Provisional approval is granted when a law school has set up an extensive plan that meets the ABA's requirements, but hasn't met all the strict guidelines yet. Provisional approval from the ABA raises red flags for most law school applicants, but with a little research you can breathe easy.
  1. Attending a School with Provisional Approval

    • Focus on your studies just as you would at a fully accredited school.

As long as the school to which you've applied has provisional approval when you begin your studies there, your status with the bar will indicate that you've attended an ABA-approved law school. Even if the college doesn't gain full approval within the stipulated five-year time period, you are guaranteed eligibility to sit for the bar exam in all 50 states, provided you meet the testing board's other requirements. The acceptance rates are considerably higher at the provisionally approved schools, as well.
