Legal Response

In the court of law, a response is a written response to the initial court filing for the plaintiff. A response is also known as a complaint or petition. Defendants normally have 30 days to file a response.
  1. Identification

    • A legal response is a part of the fact-finding process that takes place before a trial. Some responses are required to be made under oath.

    Necessity

    • Someone who is served with a motion is required to file a response, such as a request for interrogatories or a request for production or admission.

    Disbursement

    • During a response, the original response is filed in the court, and copies of the original response are given to other parties in the case if necessary.
