Joint Law & Business Degrees

A joint law and business degree offers graduate students to earn their Juris Doctor (J.D.) while simultaneously earning a Master of Business Administration. Joint degree problems take longer than a single graduate degree, but allows students to graduate with two degrees in a shorter amount of time than earning both degrees individually. All schools listed are qualified to offer federal and state financial aid. These schools also have several private scholarships available to accepted students.
  1. College of William and Mary

    • The College of William and Mary is located in Williamsburg, Virginia. The joint degree program allows students to earn a law degree through the William and Mary Law School while also earning a Master of Business Administration degree through the Mason School of Business. Students must apply to the law school and business school separately. Once you have been accepted at both schools, you must apply to the joint degree program. You can start in either program but must complete the first year of each degree before combining classes. The two degrees will take students four years to earn. You will need to pay tuition for one year of business school and three years of law school. Law school tuition for Virginia residents is $23,800 per year and $33,800 for non-residents. Business school tuition is $25,000 for residents and $36,500 for non-residents.

    Marquette University

    • Milwaukee, Wisconsin is home to Marquette University a school that offers a joint degree through the law school and the college of business administration. Students will earn a J.D. and an MBA. The joint degree program takes approximately four years to complete. The first and fourth year are law school courses only while the second and third year combine MBA and law school requirements. Students must be admitted to the Graduate School of Management and the Law School on an individual basis. Tuition for law classes is paid based on law school tuition and tuition costs are $37,570 per academic year as of 2011.

    Southern Methodist University

    • Southern Methodist University offers a joint degree in law and business through the Dedman School of Law and the Cox School of Business. The joint degree program takes students four years to complete. Students must submit applications to both the graduate division of the Cox School of Business and the Dedman School of Law. Prospective students should be sure to note on their applications for both schools that they are interested in the joint degree program. The school, which is located in Dallas, Texas, costs $42,057 per academic year for tuition and fees.

    Univerity of California at Berkeley

    • University of California at Berkeley offers a joint degree program that allows students to earn two degrees in four years. The J.D./M.B.A program is offered through the Boalt Hall School of Law and the Walter A. Haas School of Business Administration. Students need to apply to both schools separately to be admitted to the joint degree program. Berkeley does allow students to be in their first year of study at either law school or business school and still apply to the other school. As of 2011, tuition costs were $44,245 for California residents, while non-residents pay $52,245. After the first year of study, non-residents can become California residents and pay the in-state tuition costs.
