Why was Thurgood Marshall rejected from the law school at Maryland university?

Thurgood Marshall was not rejected from the University of Maryland School of Law. He was denied admission to the University of Maryland's undergraduate program because of his race. He subsequently attended Lincoln University and then Howard University School of Law.
